⛔ New Age Restrictions at Fashion District
Starting this week, minors who want to visit The Fashion District after 2 p.m must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult who is at least 23 years old. The mall announced that the new age restrictions are in response to problems caused by teens gathering at the mall after school and during spring break. Employees under 18 will be able to enter if they show proof of employment. [Inquirer 🔒]
🏙️ West Philly Street Renaming
The 4900 block of Walnut Street is now “Paul Robeson Way,” in honor of the famous artist, athlete and international civil rights activist who called Philadelphia home. Robeson was one of the first Black men in the U.S to play professional football. He was also a lawyer, a Hollywood and Broadway actor and a singer with a highly respected bass-baritone voice. Philly recently celebrated his 125th birthday on April 9. [6ABC]
- Meanwhile, neighbors in Grays Ferry, Fairmount, and Tioga are hoping to change the name of Taney Street, which is named after the Supreme Court Justice who ruled that enslaved people were not American citizens. 🏈 Eagles Make Record-Breaking Contract Extension
The Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts agreed to a five-year extension of the star quarterback’s contract. The extension is reportedly worth $255 million, which would make Hurts one of the highest-paid player in NFL history. The contract also includes a no-trade clause, which is the first of its kind in the Eagles franchise. [CNN]
🏳️🌈 Pushing for Statewide LGBTQ Protection
The Fairness Act, which aims to update the state’s Human Relations Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity protections in housing, education, and public accommodations, was reintroduced in the state House. Pennsylvania is the only state in the northeast without statewide nondiscrimination protections for the LGBTQ community. [KYW News]
