What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ Last Chance to Fix Faulty Mail-in Ballots

The Office of the City Commissioners just released a list of nearly 1,400 Philly voters who made an error filling out their mail-in ballots. Some of the issues include: no date on the exterior envelope, no signature, the wrong date, or a lack of a secrecy envelope. The good news? There is time to fix it and make sure your vote counts. If your name is on this list, you can get a replacement ballot at City Hall room 140 until 7:30 p.m. [Billy Penn]

🔬 Philly High Schoolers Help Test for HIV Treatment

Last summer, 12 Philly high school students conducted experiments at The Wistar Institute, a research center in West Philly. Students tested the effects of a plant-derived, anti-inflammatory compound called hopeaphenol, as a potential new treatment for HIV. The results were so valuable, they were included in a new published study from the Institute. [Inquirer 🔒]

🚴‍♀️ Indego Program to Expand

Philadelphia’s eight-year-old Indego bike share program is adding 600 new electric bikes and new stations throughout the city, including Manyaunk, Old City, North Broad Street, and Fishtown. Over the next five years, Indego plans to focus its efforts on increasing access and ridership among underserved communities, low-income Philadelphians, youth, and people of color. [PhillyVoice]

Affordable Housing vs. Rising Rents in Philly

Philly may lose more than 10,000 federally-backed affordable housing units in the next decade. To try to slow that trend, Philadelphia City Council has passed a package of bills aimed at making it harder to convert them into more profitable, market-rate homes. Host Trenae Nuri speaks with Aaron Moselle, housing and community development reporter for WHYY’s PlanPhilly about the battle between affordable housing and rising rents.

Over the weekend, Taylor Swift graced the Lincoln Financial Field and confirmed a widely speculated fan theory that a lyric from her song “Gold Rush” does in fact reference a Philadelphia Eagles t-shirt. Go birds! 🦅

P.S. Shout out to Hey Philly reader Kerry A., who I met today while we were walking our dogs 🐕

Talk to you tomorrow, friend.
