Philly’s primary election results so far 🗳️

Hi friend. Happy post-Election Day. For the first time, it looks like a woman will hold the city's highest office.

What's CITY Talking About?

Primary elections are a big deal in Philly. Because voter registration tilts so heavily toward Democrats, Democratic nominees usually win the mayor’s race in November and are likely to fill other key positions. Here are where things stand as of early this morning. Let’s dive in!

MAYOR

Dem. Mayoral nominee: Cherelle Parker

Rep. Mayoral nominee: David Oh

CITY COUNCIL

Ten of the city’s 17 city councilmembers represent geographic districts. In the following primary races, the nominees ran unopposed. Most are incumbents.

District 1: Mark Squilla - D

District 2: Kenyatta Johnson - D

District 3: Jamie Gauthier - D

District 4: Curtis Jones Jr. - D

District 5: Jeffery Young - D

District 6: Mike Driscoll - D

District 10: Brian O’Neill - R [He'll face Democrat Gary Masino in November.]

In three races, Democratic incumbents faced a challenger on the ballot. As of early this morning, these races were too close to call, but the following candidates were in the lead.

District 7: Quetcy Lozada - D

District 8: Cindy Bass - D

District 9: Anthony Phillips - D

There are also seven at-large, or city-wide, council seats. Each party nominates five people to appear on the ballot in November. No winners have been called, but below are the leading candidates for each party.

City Council At-Large Nominees for the Democratic Party: Isaiah Thomas [incumbent], Katherine Gilmore Richardson [incumbent], Rue Landau, Nina Ahmed, Jim Harrity.

City Council At-Large Nominees for the Republican Party: Drew Murray, Frank Cristinzio, Gary Grisafi, Jim Hasher, Mary Jane Kelly.
