We have more official winners in some of Philly's closest primary races. Councilmember Anthony Phillips will succeed Democratic mayoral nominee Cherelle Parker in securing the Democratic nomination for the 9th District. Meanwhile in the 8th, it was still too close on Wednesday afternoon to say whether incumbent Cindy Bass would keep her place. There are still two more nominees to be called in the at-large City Council race, but Democratic candidates Isaiah Thomas, Katherine Gilmore Richardson, and Rue Landau have won. [Inquirer 🔒]

Philly voters approved a ballot measure that would create a new government position to oversee the city’s gun violence response and public safety efforts. The public safety director would deploy resources within the city’s police, fire, recreation and emergency services departments, guide agencies through safety-related policies, monitor security in city-owned buildings, and more. The next mayor will be the first to appoint someone to this position. [PhillyVoice]
