What's CITY Talking About?

🌬️ PA Residents Could Get Free Air Conditioning

Philly summers have gotten a lot hotter over the last five decades. Thousands of Pennsylvania residents could receive free air conditioning this summer thanks to federal utility assistance money that’s normally used for heating. For its second season, the state is using its Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program funds to install, replace, or repair A/C units. [WHYY]

🌳 How Philly’s Parks Rank in the U.S.

Out of the country’s 100 largest cities, Philadelphia is the 31st best city for public parks, according to a report from the Trust for Public Land. Philly scored 93 out of 100 for access, 44 for acreage, and 67 for equity, among other scores. Nearly all Philly residents live within half a mile of a park, which is above average. 🚴🏿‍♀️ E-Bike Ban on Ocean City Boardwalks

To make Ocean City, New Jersey safer for beachgoers, Mayor Jay Gillian plans to introduce legislation that would ban electric bike riding on the boardwalk. During an emergency City Council meeting last week, officials raised concerns about riders speeding on e-bikes in crowded areas. It would also ban motorized bikes and low-speed electric scooters. This summer, the department wants to expand this pilot program to the entire city. Host Trenae Nuri talks with Christina Griffith, contributing editor for the Philadelphia Citizen, about who qualifies for this program and if the city is set up to handle the expansion of PAD.
