💰 Lessons for Philly's Basic Income Pilot
Cities across the country have been implementing basic income pilot programs, and Philly could take inspiration from them. Beginning next year, Philadelphia will experiment with using guaranteed income as a tool to reduce infant mortality. Philly Joy Bank, a pilot program announced in March, will provide $1,000 per month to 250 pregnant people for 18 months. Earlier this year, a similar program in Durham, North Carolina provided monthly payments to formerly incarcerated individuals. Advocates say that approach would also be beneficial in Philly.
