💰 Temple University to Hike Tuition
Full-time Temple students will see tuitions rise across the board for the upcoming school year. The university announced fee increases of more than 4% on average, although actual amounts will differ by school and major. The hikes come as Temple has seen enrollment decline by more than 20% since before the pandemic. It’s one of the country’s most expensive public universities for in-state students, according to a 2021 U.S. News & World report. [Inquirer🔒]
⚖️ Driver Accused of Dragging Philly Officer in Custody
Eddy Brito-Almonte turned himself in about a day after he tangled with police during a traffic stop. On Monday, highway patrol officers spotted a handgun on the floorboard of his Tesla after pulling him over. When one officer tried to retrieve it, Brito-Almonte allegedly put the car in reverse, dragging the officer about 100 feet. Police say he then put it in drive and dragged the officer another 100 feet, before kicking him off and leaving the scene. Brito-Almonte has been charged with aggravated assault, fleeing police, and other related offenses. [NBC10]
⚕️ White House Releases Strategy to Target Xylazine
In an effort to combat the impact of xylazine, an animal sedative commonly found in Philly's drug supply, the White House has unveiled a new plan. It includes measures to collect more data on the drug’s role in overdose deaths, to find ways to limit its use in illegal substances, and to create a framework of the best treatment practices for healthcare professionals.
