🎙️ Let’s stay on this musical theme, shall we?

We asked you to share who or what defines Philly’s “sound,” and you delivered the goods. Here are a few of your Hey Philly readers sounding off:

Melissa B.

“We are a city of beautifully diverse music, but the SOP/Gamble & Huff/Thom Bell/Philly Soul define Philly like no other genre! The funk, the grit, the harmony, the edge, the gospel, the message... it's the soundtrack of Philly!”

Immy F.

“Philly has ALWAYS been known as every genre but especially for music of the 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's. Sounds of every artist of MOTOWN, love songs (ex. CARPENTERS, JOHNNY MATHIS). The British invasion truly brought a new version of music which some loved & some didn't.”

Ruby K.

“The soundtrack of Philadelphia should be The Sound of Philadelphia created by the music of Gamble and Huff so in my opinion Rhythm and Blues!”

Uvbi K.

“Jill Scott: Long Walk/Golden.”

Meryl H.

“Snacktime defines Philly musically!”

Teresa M.

“Meek Mill, The Roots, Cassidy, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff, Boys 2 Men, Schooly D, Tuff Crew, Eve, Patti Labelle, Teddy Pendergrass.”

Jerry C.

“Chill Moody!”
