What's CITY Talking About?
Philly Declares Heat Health Emergency
The emergency designation runs Thursday morning through Saturday, July 29 at 8 p.m., but could be extended if the forecast worsens. The National Weather Service forecasts the heat index could reach the 100s on both Thursday and Friday afternoons. The city advises Philadelphians to check in with friends and family during this heat wave, especially people who are pregnant, are elderly, have pets, do not have AC, or have chronic medical conditions. Woman Shot During Eviction Suing Landlord-Tenant Officer
“Since that day, I have struggled with symptoms from a traumatic brain injury,” said Angela Davis, one of two Philadelphians shot during an eviction-related altercation in the past four months. She is now suing several groups involved with the eviction, including the city’s landlord-tenant officer. As a result of the shootings, that officer has agreed to suspend operations until their agents are properly trained in de-escalation procedures. [KYW]

Another SEPTA-Involved Collision This Week
A SEPTA bus crashed into a building on 16th and Walnut streets Tuesday night, making it the fourth collision involving a SEPTA vehicle in a week. Officials said the bus driver involved in Tuesday’s wreck sustained minor injuries and no other passengers were onboard. But, the three other recent crashes have resulted in multiple injuries and one fatality. SEPTA's new chief safety officer Ronald Keele said extra training is being implemented following these wrecks. West Philly: Beware of the Sinkhole
In what sounds like a scene out of Looney Tunes but is very real and dangerous, a massive sinkhole has opened up at 57th and Media streets. Residents of the area said that the sinkhole had opened a year ago and it was presumed to have been fixed. One resident said it took a few days for the city to fix it and it looks bigger now than before. No one has been hurt or injured in the road collapse. [6ABC]

How PA Liquor Laws Impact Philly’s Bar Scene

Host Trenae Nuri speaks with a lawyer who has spent decades working with bar owners to keep their taps flowing, and they discuss why Philly’s drinking scene is changing.
Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
