Check out this massive bounce house at the Navy Yard
August 18, 2023
It’s finally Friday, friend! Did you see the “Blue Beetle” movie ad on the Art Museum steps? So far, a lot of Philadelphians are not into it. I’d love to read your hot takes!

What's CITY Talking About?
🚍 More Red Bus Lanes
SEPTA buses have been moving faster, thanks to an 18-month pilot project in which bus lanes were painted red to discourage other drivers from using them. During that period, SEPTA buses along JFK Boulevard between 15th and 19th streets traveled about 15% faster. The city will now add six more red bus lanes in the coming year, mainly in North Philly. ⚖️ Starbucks Settlement Grows
Starbucks must pay an additional $2.7 million in damages to Shannon Phillips, a former Philly manager who alleges she was fired for being white. The company fired Phillips less than a month after two Black men were arrested at the Starbucks on 18th and Spruce Streets, an incident that sparked national outrage. She sued the coffee giant in 2019, arguing that she had no impact on the arrests. In June, a federal jury in Camden awarded Phillips $25.6 million in damages from her former employer. [Inquirer 🔒]
🌍 More Migrant Bus Arrivals
Two more buses carrying migrants arrived in Philadelphia in the span of 24 hours. On Thursday morning, volunteers greeted about 53 people from countries including Honduras, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Since last November, Philly officials say the city has received 50 buses carrying migrants from the U.S.-Mexico border. [NBC10]
💻 76ers Host Online Meetings
The Sixers began hosting online forums this week regarding their plans to build an arena in Center City. But some residents and community advocates argue that Zoom meetings don’t allow all questions to be heard, and may limit input from older residents and those who don’t speak English. Last December, the Sixers held an in-person meeting and were met with an angry crowd. Future virtual info sessions are planned in Cantonese and Mandarin. [Inquirer🔒]

Where Is it?

Last week’s photo challenge was a tough one. This Philly-centric mural is located inside the Philadelphia International Airport, which is filled with art installations.

I spotted this recently and it made me laugh. Can you tell me where this goofy piece of graffiti is? If you get it right, you can submit a photo for next week. (But feel free to send me pictures any time!)
