What's CITY Talking About?

🎸 New Springsteen Dates

Rescheduled dates for two postponed Bruce Springsteen shows in Philly are here, but fans will have to wait a whole year to see “The Boss.” Springsteen called off his scheduled August shows at Citizens Bank Park due to an undisclosed illness, leaving fans in a sad limbo. The new dates are Aug. 21 and 23, 2024. Tickets for the original shows are still valid. [Inquirer🔒]

⚖️ Kingsessing Shooter Unfit for Trial

Kimbrady Carriker, who allegedly killed five people in the Kingsessing neighborhood earlier this summer, has been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial and must complete 60 days of inpatient mental health treatment. The trial is on hold. Carriker, 40, told police that he went on the shooting spree to “clean up the neighborhood.” He’s charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and illegal gun possession, and is being held without bail. 🏠 Improving Philly’s Eviction System

Local housing advocates and attorneys want to see improvements to Philly’s current eviction system, according to testimony this week at a committee hearing. They called for “city-specific” de-escalation training, a public system to report complaints, and the use of social workers throughout the eviction process. In March, following the shooting of Angel Davis, two Philly legislators introduced a bill to ban private entities from enforcing evictions, which would apply across the state. [WHYY]

Transforming Philly's Vacant Lots

Philadelphia has about 40,000 vacant lots. Keeping them clean and green can help reduce crime and littering, and even raise property values. So, what can your community do to start repurposing an empty lot? Host Trenae Nuri and Nate Hommel, director of planning and design for University City District, talked through the process of turning a neglected space into a community oasis back in April.

Talk tomorrow, neighbor.
