What's CITY Talking About?
⚕️ COVID-19 Test Recall
During a routine inventory check, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health discovered that some COVID-19 test kits it distributed were unauthorized, and issued a recall. Philly residents who recently picked up a kit from the city or a local community organization should throw it away if the lot number is “COV2110012.” Residents can grab a free replacement at any of these health centers and other locations. The department is currently working to create new protocols so that all testing kits are authorized before vendors ship them to Philly, according to city officials. [Billy Penn]
📷 New Photos of Escaped Inmate
Police shared new photos of escaped Chester County Prison inmate Danelo Cavalcante. Cavalcante, who was last spotted in Phoenixville, is now clean-shaven, and wearing a green hoodie, green prison pants, white shoes, and a baseball hat. Anyone who has information on his location is advised to dial 911 or call the tip line at (717) 562-2987. [PhillyVoice]
🏫 Philly Teacher Exodus?
During the 2022-23 school year, 382 full-time Philly public school teachers resigned, according to district data. The attrition rate was highest at Thomas A. Edison High School, Dobbins High School, and Hill-Freedman World Academy. Philadelphia Superintendent Tony Watlington wants to offer financial incentives, such as annual bonuses, to recruit more teachers and keep them in the classrooms. [Axios Philadelphia]

🍳 New Kensington Youth Nonprofit
Philly Bridge & Jawn, aka PB&J, is a new Kensington non-profit that pays teenagers to cook meals for each other and connect to youth service providers. Through his work at McPherson Square Library, founder Bryan Belknap noticed that many local teens struggle to access and stay connected with youth services, due to trauma and enduring behavioral issues. Belknap is currently recruiting youth to participate in a pilot version of the program starting this fall. The goal is to create a safe haven for youth to process their pain and access the support they need. [Inquirer 🔒]
