🎓 TU Interim President Dies

Temple University interim president JoAnne A. Epps collapsed during an event at the school on Tuesday afternoon. She was rushed to the university's hospital and pronounced dead around 3:15 p.m. Epps was 72. The former law school dean started her career at Temple more than 40 years ago, working at the bookstore. 📅 First Mayoral Debate Scheduled

Mayoral candidates Cherelle Parker and David Oh are scheduled for their first debate next month. On Oct. 26, the former City Council members will face off on KYW Newsradio. Come January 2024, the winner will take over for outgoing Mayor Jim Kenney. [Inquirer 🔒]

Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal medication, is now available over-the-counter at Philly pharmacies. But there’s a catch: it’s not super affordable, and a supply shortage may squash hope for a positive impact. 🌳 More Trees, Happier Philly?

The Philly Tree Plan received a $12 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to enhance tree coverage equity and make Philly greener. In February, the city released a new 10-year plan to create an “urban forest,” intended to improve public health, reduce crime, alleviate heat issues, and lower household income.
