💼 Philly’s female leadership gap
October 5, 2023
Good morning, Philly! It’s City Cast editor Adrian González here. Did you buy a lottery ticket at a Bucks County tobacco shop? If so, you might be $2.7 million richer.

What's CITY Talking About?
💼 Philly’s Female Leadership Gap
Female leadership growth among Philly area public companies slowed in 2022, according to a report by the Forum of Executive Women — with only a 7% increase in women executives in c-suite and board of directors positions compared to the previous year's nearly 13% surge. While the total percentage of female executives reached 21%, up from 19% in 2021, the report noted a stagnant 15% representation of women among top earners. [PHL Biz Journal]
🚨 Arrest Made in Viral Biker Road Rage Video
Philadelphia Police announced the arrest of a suspect in a Sunday night assault caught on video — the now-viral video shows a dirt biker shattering a vehicle’s windshield and pointing a gun at the driver, who was accompanied by two children. Officials thanked residents for helping track down the suspect. [NBC10]
🥯 Of Labor and Lox
Korshak Bagels had been a key location for Local 80, an upstart food service workers union which represented the bagel shop's employees. The eatery’s closure last month was therefore bit of a hitch for the burgeoning labor group. Despite this setback, Local 80 remains determined to expand its presence and secure contracts at other Philly area establishments in the next two months. [Billy Penn]
🏙️ Can Housing Solve Philly’s Empty Office Problem?
When COVID shook up how we all live and work, Philly’s big office towers emptied out. Some workers have returned, but Center City is still hurting for people. What if we converted those empty offices into homes? [City Cast Philly 🎧]

Converting Center City Offices Into Homes

An office building at 17th and Market is slated to be turned into nearly 300 new apartments, the biggest office-to-housing conversion since the pandemic.
Lead producer Laura Benshoff talks with Jake Blumgart, commercial real estate reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, about what these conversions look like, and whether they're the answer to Philly’s empty-office problem.
I’ll leave you with this heartwarming story of a military service member who found his lost dog after a nearly-two-week saga.
