What's CITY Talking About?
Philly Hosts Move Away From Short-Term Rentals
About 1,000 hosts in Philly switched from short- to long-term rentals at the beginning of 2023 as the new city regulations on rentals went into effect, and more than 1,850 hosts have delisted from platforms like Airbnb and VRBO. The new law reinforces a long-standing but rarely enforced regulation requiring short-term rental properties where the owner doesnât live to have a hotel license. [Inquirer đ]

Philly Parents Struggle to Find RSV Antibody Shots
Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is the leading cause of hospitalizations for thousands of infants and newborns every year â and in Philly, the antibody shots that protect against RSV may not be widely available until next year. The FDA approved a single-shot monoclonal antibody treatment in July that could protect babies from RSV for at least five months, but many doctors and health care providers say they canât offer a timeline of when they will have a supply of the antibodies at their offices. Police Union Authorizes Strike Against SEPTA
After six months of negotiation with no progress toward a new contract, the Fraternal Order of Transit Police, Lodge 109, voted to strike against SEPTA. They are the second SEPTA union to authorize a strike against the transit agency this month. SEPTA is also negotiating with two other unions on contracts set to expire later this year and early in 2024. [Inquirer]

The MĂŒtter Museumâs Ethical Drama
The MĂŒtter is Phillyâs iconic medical history museum. More than 100,000 visitors come every year to see displays like Albert Einstein's brain or an enormous human colon. But these exhibits involve real remains, often obtained years ago through grave robbing or other shady practices. Now, the museum is taking a new look at whether their display is ethical. Reexamining the collection, however, has sparked a backlash from MĂŒtter Museum fans.
