Outreach Targets Lesser-Known Overdose Hotspots

A new city program has outreach workers going door-to-door in Black and brown communities where opioid overdose deaths are on the rise, raising awareness of the problem and handing out free narcan. The effort seeks to reach 100,000 homes in hotspots outside of Kensington, where opioid use is most visible and where harm reduction and outreach resources are already concentrated. [WHYY]

NYT Publishes List of Best Philly Restaurants

South Philly eateries dominate a list of the city’s best restaurants published by The New York Times, making up 14 out of 25 entries. The list ranges from budget-friendly favorites like the Indonesian joint Hardena, to haute cuisine places like Ambra, where dinner goes for $300 a head. The Philadelphia Subreddit is abuzz with takes: “NY times trying to make us the 6th borough again.” [Inquirer/New York Times]

Police Catch Fugitive Wanted in Roxborough School Shooting

Authorities have finally caught the last of five suspects wanted in last year’s shooting outside Roxborough High School that killed 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde and injured several other teenagers. Police apprehended Dayron Burney-Thorn Monday afternoon in Germantown over a year after the September 2022 shooting that followed a football scrimmage. [NBC10]
