🚔 Council Member’s Enforcement-Driven Approach
Philly City Councilmember Quetcy Lozada is pushing for a more law enforcement-driven approach to tackling the opioid crisis in Kensington, and she may soon have support in the mayor’s office if Cherelle Parker is elected. Lozada also seeks to involuntarily commit people with addiction to "stabilization centers." That approach contrasts with the city’s current harm reduction policies. [Inquirer]

🚔 Staffing Shortage Slows Down Taser Rollout
The Philadelphia Police Department’s plan to equip its entire force with Tasers in response to the fatal shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. in 2020 is facing delays due to staffing shortages. The department says it's still committed to its 2026 deadline but a shortage of nearly 1,000 officers means it's hard to pull police from their beats to train on the new equipment. [Axios Philly]
