What's CITY Talking About?

Brady Threatens Progressive Democrats

The longtime head of the Democratic Party in Philadelphia, Bob Brady, is threatening to expel party committee members who endorse Working Families Party candidates for the competitive at-large council seat races. The progressive WFP candidates are trying to win votes from Democrats by arguing that a vote for them would help oust Republicans from City Council altogether. One of them, incumbent Kendra Brooks, has been endorsed by Governor Josh Shapiro. [Inquirer]

Pre-Orders Open for 2nd Eagles Holiday Album

Philadelphia Eagles offensive linemen Jordan Mailata, Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson’s sophomore LP, “A Philly Special Christmas Special,” features special guests including Patti LaBelle, Travis Kelce, Waxahatchee, and members of The War on Drugs. You can buy it on red vinyl or as part of a two-disc gold vinyl set that includes their debut album, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Board Closes Philly Charter in Disputed Vote

The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School’s board voted to close the school at the end of the year, but the school district is not acknowledging the decision. At a board meeting last week, parents gave passionate speeches urging that the school remain open, but the public was ushered away when it came time for the board to vote, in an apparent violation of the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act.
