What's CITY Talking About?

Mayor Kenney Remedied His Ballot, and You Can, Too

The city commissioners published a list of Philadelphia voters who submitted mail-in ballots with errors so that they can correct them and ensure their votes are counted. Even Mayor Kenney is on it, so no matter how confident you are you followed the instructions, it couldn’t hurt to check the searchable list NBC10 put together. [NBC10]

GOP Fights To Stay on City Council

Republicans are battling with the progressive Working Families Party to win the two at-large Philadelphia City Council seats reserved for minority parties, and each party’s candidates are trying to court voters outside their base to get an edge. If incumbent Kendra Brooks and fellow WFP candidate Nicholas O’Rourke can win enough votes from Democrats, they could knock Republicans off of City Council entirely. [Inquirer]

Amtrak Gets Massive New Infrastructure Investment

President Biden was in Delaware on Monday to announce an historic $66 billion investment in the Amtrak rail system, including $16 billion for the Northeast Corridor, the nation’s busiest route. Philadelphia is one major stop on the corridor, which spans from Washington, D.C. to Boston. [CBS3]

VIP Kicked Out of Eagles Game

South Jersey political boss George Norcross III was forced to leave Sunday’s Philadelphia Eagles game after refusing to take down a flag showing support for Israel that he had hung from his box. The flag violated a Lincoln Financial Field policy banning signs or banners that may be offensive to other spectators or are unrelated to the sporting event. [Inquirer]

Things You Didn’t Know Are Illegal in Pennsylvania

It's illegal within the state to use fortune-telling as a means of convincing someone you can alter their life for profit. In 2015, a Philadelphia woman was charged with theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception in Chester County after convincing a woman to pay $10,000s to lift a cloud of 'spells and curses' off of her.

This Election Day, we're taking a look back at some of the weirdest local and state laws previous generations of elected officials have put on the books. Back in July, host Trenae Nuri spoke with City Cast Pittsburgh host Megan Harris and Harrison Cann, reporter at City & State PA, about where these laws come from and what impact they have today.

Happy voting!
