🚌 City moves problem bus station
November 10, 2023
Happy Friday! A couple weeks ago, I joked about how a glut of seasonal events gave you ample opportunity to don your finest flannel. Well, this weekend there’s one that explicitly encourages you to wear fall’s favorite fabric. Shoulda pulled an Eagles and tried to trademark that thing while I had the chance 😏

What's CITY Talking About?

City Moves Problem Bus Stop
The city is relocating an open-air intercity bus stop that has caused congestion at Market Street and Independence Mall since the Greyhound bus terminal closed last summer. The bus stop has inconvenienced travelers forced to line up on the sidewalk as well as pedestrians on a busy stretch near Independence National Historical Park and the federal courthouse. Beginning November 16, the buses will use a temporary stop at Spring Garden and Front Street until the city finds a permanent location. [Inquirer]
UC Townhomes Set for Demolition
The fate of the West Philadelphia affordable housing complex has been the focus of fervent activism in the two years since the decision to redevelop the property. On a half-acre of the property donated by the owner, the city plans to build 70 new affordable housing units to replace those that were lost. What the rest of the parcel will become is still uncertain, but possibilities include a new life sciences building or market-rate housing development. [WHYY]
Norcross Mulls Lawsuit Against Eagles
George Norcross, the South Jersey politico who was booted from his skybox during Sunday’s Philadelphia Eagles game for hanging a pro-Israel banner, says he’s now considering suing the team. In response, the Eagles released a statement that added more details to their account of the incident, saying Norcross became “verbally and physically abusive” when he was asked to comply with stadium policies prohibiting such displays and was only ejected when he wouldn’t desist – accusations he has denied. Democrats Win Big in School Board Elections
Democrats took control of three Bucks County school boards that had become flashpoints for the culture wars around gender identity, religion, and race. In the Central Bucks School District, Democratic school board candidates swept Republicans to win all five open seats. The results reflect a national trend of voters pushing back against conservative school policies pushed by groups like Moms for Liberty. [NBC10/AP]

Where Is It?
Last week, Hey Philly reader Nina G. submitted this photo of a hanging metal bouquet for your consideration.

Congrats to Hey Philly readers Chantal D., Christin K., Monica M., Nicole V., Elaine G., Lynda S., Joe L., and Tamica C. for correctly guessing that this decoration is suspended on the side of Reading Terminal Market. It’s a good reminder to look up when you’re hustling around Center City!
Keeping on the metal sculpture theme, a big thank-you to reader Monica M. for this week’s challenge.

Let us know where to find it and you, too, will get a shoutout in Hey Philly!
