What's CITY Talking About?
Charges in Shooting That Injured Haverford Student
The suspect who shot and injured three young Palestinian men in Burlington, Vermont, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder on Monday. Twenty-year-old Haverford College student Kinnan Abdalhamid suffered minor injuries when he and two friends were shot while walking near the University of Vermont on their way to a Thanksgiving gathering. The group was speaking Arabic when the shooting occurred, and police are investigating whether the crime was hate-motivated. [Inquirer/BBC]
Hall & Oates Lawsuit Details Emerge
After a week of speculation as to what’s come between the two former Temple students, the AP reports that Darryl Hall is suing John Oates over an attempt by Oates to sell his share in the duo’s business entity, Whole Oats Enterprises LLP. Many details remain unclear, as Hall argued successfully to keep some court filings under seal – apparently wanting to restrict them to “private eyes” only. [AP]
Construction Progresses on Penn’s Landing Park
Demolition has begun on the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge over I-95 in Old City, the next phase in the construction of a new 11.5-acre waterfront park at Penn’s Landing. The new park will span the interstate highway and Columbus Avenue from the street grid to the Delaware River. There will be lane closures on Columbus Avenue during demolition of the pedestrian bridge, and detours are planned for I-95 starting in January, when work to remove the existing concrete covering the highway is to begin.
