⚖️ Philly takes a step forward on reparations
December 6, 2023
Welcome to Wednesday. Well, you really can get anything delivered these days. I just read about several Christmas tree purveyors in the Philly region who will bring them right to your door. I was going to joke that Amazon should get into the Tannenbaum game, but they already have been delivering live pines for several years. GoPuff?

What's CITY Talking About?
Macy’s Stabbing Victim Identified
The security guard who was killed in a stabbing at the historic Center City department store Monday morning was Eric Harrison, 27, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. His mother told the paper that he worked another full-time job sorting mail on the overnight shift for USPS, and that the customers at Macy’s loved him. The man suspected of murdering Harrison, Tyrone Tunnell, 30, is in custody. A second security guard injured in the attack, who has not been named, is in stable condition at the hospital. [Inquirer]
No Cocoa for Compromised Hershey’s Customers
The Hershey Company revealed in a legal filing that hackers gained access to the sensitive personal information of over 2,000 customers. The Pennsylvania chocolate maker is offering affected customers two years of credit monitoring. No word yet on whether they’ve also offered them Kisses to make it better. [6ABC]
Fetterman Enlists Santos to Mock Menendez
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman paid George Santos, the disgraced former Congressman from New York, to produce a sarcastic video message for Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey, who has been indicted on federal bribery charges. Since his expulsion from Congress on ethics violations, Santos has taken up a new line of work producing personalized videos on the website Cameo. Fetterman was the first Democratic senator to call for Menendez’s resignation. The video cost his campaign $200, prompting Menendez to fire back, “I’m surprised he didn’t ask his parents for the money." [NBC10]
Philly’s Reluctant Gun Buyers
Fear of growing gun violence in the city is driving many Philadelphians who don’t fit the typical gun-owner profile to carry firearms. The Inquirer profiled four first-time gun buyers in the city, including three Black women, who felt that they needed a gun to protect themselves or their family. The changing attitudes about gun ownership in the Black community have contributed to a surge in license-to-carry permits in Philadelphia. [Inquirer]
