Good Monday morning. There’s another guy named Joel in Philly who’s selling his pretty fantastic $5.5 million condo in Society Hill (I hear he’s in the NBA or something). #Goals.

What's CITY Talking About?

City Warns of Measles Exposure

Responding to a cluster of measles cases in the city, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health is warning residents about six locations where exposure to the measles virus occurred between December 19 and January 2. The list of locations grew last week to include a day care center, CHOP, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and Nazareth Hospital. People vaccinated against measles are not at risk, but 90 percent of unvaccinated people exposed to the highly contagious virus will become sick, according to the health department. The Rosenbach Repatriates Piece of Theater History

A handwritten contract from 1599 documenting the formation of the first theater company in the Americas is returning home to Peru after spending the last 100 years in Philadelphia. Philadelphia rare-book dealer A.S.W. Rosenbach acquired the manuscript in 1920, not realizing it had been stolen from Peru’s national archives, and it later became part of the collection of his namesake museum, The Rosenbach. After a theater historian saw it on display at the museum in 2015, she contacted the director of the Peruvian National Archives, who sought the help of the U.S. government to facilitate its repatriation. Kenney’s Pocket Vetoes

Former Mayor Jim Kenney left office without signing four bills passed by City Council, a move known as a pocket veto that ensures Council can’t override an actual veto. One bill would have instituted a fee for paper shopping bags, which the Kenney administration worried would hurt low-income residents. There were also bills that would have banned gaming machines in convenience stores, required new businesses to hire workers laid-off when a previous business in the same location closed, and provided guidance to high school athletes negotiating name, image, and likeness deals. Welcome to the Philly side of TikTok. This social media platform may be internationally popular, but Philly content creators are some of its best. Host Trenae Nuri is joined by Beatrice Foreman, general assignment reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer, to highlight the funniest local food reviewers, realest Jersey mom-fluencers, and thickest Delco accents you can find on the app.

On a personal note, today is my last day filling in as newsletter editor. It’s been an honor to help create your daily guide to Philly for the past few months, and so nice to hear from folks around town who read and enjoy the newsletter. Thanks so much for your support. I’ll see you around!
