🥪 Another Impending Wawa Closure
The Wawa at 20th and Hamilton will become Philly’s seventh Wawa location to close since 2020. The company has said some of the other closures were due to safety concerns, but in this particular case, the store is closing because it wasn’t offered a lease renewal. [Inquirer 🔒]
🧑⚖️ Professors Sue Penn
Some faculty members at the University of Pennsylvania have filed a lawsuit against the school for allegedly threatening professors’ academic freedom and chilling “virtually all moral, political, legal, and other criticism of the nation-state Israel.” [The Daily Pennsylvanian]
- Penn and other colleges in the region and around the country have been struggling to handle campus issues relating to the Israel-Hamas War since the fall. [City Cast Philly 🎧]
💸 West Philly Program Gets $4 Million Surprise Grant
Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott made a big, out-of-the-blue donation to the West Philadelphia Skills Initiative, a workforce development initiative that helps unemployed Philadelphians find entry-level work at jobs paying an average of $22 per hour. [WHYY]
