🍷 Day trip guide: Philly-area wineries
June 26, 2024 · — Asha Prihar
Happy Wednesday! I will be spending all day today thinking about the free hoagie I plan to get tomorrow. Will it taste better than my normal Wawa order? Probably not (and possibly the opposite) — but it’s all about the ~experience~, ya know?

What's CITY Talking About?
👋 Say Goodbye to ‘Cenrtal Phila’
Did you catch that typo on a new I-95 sign earlier this week? It’s been fixed, so it now directs drivers toward “Central Phila” instead of “Cenrtal Phila.” [CBS3]
🥐 Say Hello to the ‘Pastry ATM’
Salt & Vinegar in the Italian Market has a new addition: a vending machine carrying products made by Manayunk bakery Flakely Gluten Free. [PhillyVoice]
- This isn’t the first specialty food vending machine in town! Check out City Cast Philly producer Abby Fritz’s review of the 24-hour cheese vending machine in Kensington. [Hey Philly]
📚 Penn Library Workers Unionizing
Staff at the University of Pennsylvania’s libraries — including librarians, curators, and developers — intend to unionize. They’ve filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to be recognized as Penn Libraries United. [The Daily Pennsylvanian]

Where Is It?
After a one-week hiatus for Juneteenth, we’re back to our regularly scheduled “Where Is It?” segment! For anyone who’s new here, this is a weekly game where I show you a photo of a mural or other piece of public art, and you send me your guess as to where it is.
We’ll start off by revealing the location of this railroad mural, which I shared with you two weeks ago:

The answer: You can find this artwork at Cresson and Gay Streets in Manayunk. Fittingly, it’s located underneath the Manayunk Regional Rail station.
The mural, judging from an old Times Herald article, seems to have been painted in 2003 by artist Ken Millington. It’s meant to show the neighborhood during its industrial days on the right side (not fully pictured above, sorry!), with the train traveling to 21st-century Manayunk on the left side.
Congrats to Hey Philly readers Treshia H., Helena G., and Mary Agnes W. for correctly guessing the location!
Now, on to this week’s challenge. This photo was submitted by Hey Philly reader Karen S.:

So … where is it? Reply to this email and let me know, or submit your answer here. Try to include the neighborhood, street name, and/or a nearby business or landmark.

Will Giving $1k/Month to Expecting Parents Reduce Philly’s Infant Mortality Rates?
The city just started taking applications for a new guaranteed income pilot program aimed at reducing Philly’s high infant mortality rates. Last spring, City Cast Philly podcast host Trenae Nuri spoke with officials from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to learn how the Philly Joy Bank program plans to support 250 expecting Philadelphians with monthly payments of $1,000.

Enjoy your Wednesday!
