🍎 Parker Announces Extended School Plans
The details are out for a new education pilot program for the 2024-2025 school year, which will keep 20 district schools and five charter schools open for longer hours and more days, including during the summer. Mayor Cherelle Parker says the school calendar will remain the same, and it won’t be mandatory for students to stay beyond typical school hours. [NBC10]

It’s the Friday News Roundup! City Cast Philly podcast host Trenae Nuri is joined by Larry Platt, co-founder of The Philadelphia Citizen, and Sammy Caiola, journalist at Kensington Voice. They talk about the state of Kensington — including Philly’s “noncompliant” uses of federal opioid settlement money — the city’s plan to test out extended learning at 25 schools, and the two porch pirates who fought it out over a package in Berks County.
