🚆 Your Philly ➡️ Harrisburg day trip guide

August 7, 2024 · — Asha Prihar

Good morning! Today, I’m bringing you Hey Philly’s final day trip guide of the summer. But don’t worry … I’ve got a few more trip suggestions up my sleeve, and I’ll talk about them on the City Cast Philly podcast later this week 😎

What's CITY Talking About?

Gov. Josh Shapiro waves at a crowd.

🗳️ Shapiro Will Stay in PA

After being vetted as a potential Democratic vice presidential candidate, PA Gov. Josh Shapiro will not be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz got the nod instead. [Spotlight PA]

  • “Pennsylvanians elected me to a four-year term as their Governor, and my work here is far from finished,” Shapiro wrote in a statement, calling the decision “deeply personal” for him. He plans to travel across Pennsylvania to campaign for Harris and Walz. [@joshshapiropa on Instagram]

🚗 Parking Permit Price Increase

Starting Sept. 1, the PPA is upping the price of a residential parking permit from $35 to $75 and introducing a three-permits-per-household cap. Meant to discourage overcrowded curbs, this will be the first base price increase since the program began in 1983. [Inquirer 🔒]

Barnes Foundation 🤝 St. Joseph’s University

The two institutions are starting an online graduate degree program in museum education, plus a certificate program. It includes an in-person component at the Barnes Foundation for Philly-area students. [WHYY]

Where Is It?

Welcome back to our weekly challenge, where I show you some public art and you try to guess where in the city it’s located. Last week’s photo, pictured above, was provided by Hey Philly reader Brian M.

📍 The answer: You can find this depiction of Joel Embiid on the Dougherty Electric warehouse in Whitman, which is located at the corner of Porter and Water Streets. Joey Dougherty spray-painted the image on his family’s business in 2021, and he’s since added depictions of Bryce Harper, Jalen Hurts, and Jason Kelce.

🏆 We’ve got three winners who recognized this mural: Kathy L., Alma C., and Elaine G. Great job!

🎨 Now, on to this week’s challenge, submitted by Hey Philly reader Donna B.

This one’s kind of hard, so I’ll give you a hint: It’s by a school, and it’s located east of Broad Street. (Donna B./reader submission)

Where in Philly can you find this sidewalk art? Submit your response here, or send me an email. You can include the neighborhood, street, and/or a nearby landmark.
