🔵 Philly highlights from the DNC
August 23, 2024 · — Asha Prihar
🍂 I don’t know about you, but I’ve got pumpkin spice on the mind. Starbucks kicked off PSL season yesterday, and La Colombe just debuted a new pumpkin pie chai oatmilk draft latte that I’ve got my eye on 👀
If you’ve got a favorite pumpkin spice item in Philly (or least favorite, for the haters), send me an email and tell me what it is!

What's CITY Talking About?

🔵 Recap: Philly & PA at the DNC
The Democratic National Convention wrapped up in Chicago last night. Some locally relevant highlights:
- Mayor Cherelle Parker spent the week there, as did several other local elected officials — and a handful of Philly-area content creators. [CBS3/Inquirer 🔒]
- Gov. Josh Shapiro, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, and North Philly state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta each addressed the full convention. [Axios/WESA/USA Today/NBC]
- The PA delegates ceremonially cast their roll call votes on Tuesday as “Motownphilly” and “Black and Yellow” played in the background. [NPR]
- Penn alum John Legend performed Wednesday, and Doylestown native Pink sang on the final night. [USA Today]
🦟 West Nile Virus Reported in Philly
The city reported that two people have been infected with a severe form of the mosquito-carried illness last week, and 40% of mosquito traps in the city have tested positive for the virus since May. Officials recommend wearing long sleeves and bug spray as precautions. [Axios Philadelphia]
🧇 National Waffle Day is Tomorrow
If you’re looking for a spot to honor this totally-not-made-up holiday, we’ve got you covered. [Hey Philly]
- And if waffles aren’t your fave, but I just really made you crave brunch (sorry!), we can also help you find a spot for that. [City Cast Philly 🎧]
