👑 Crowning Philly’s best cheesesteak

September 26, 2024 · — Asha Prihar

We’ve been talking a lot about cheesesteaks this week, but I just wanted to take a moment to share that another beloved local sandwich has made its annual comeback: Wawa’s Gobbler. Personally, I find it difficult to get behind cranberry sauce on a hoagie, but if you’re into that kind of thing … ’tis the season!

What's CITY Talking About?

🤝 Sixers Arena Agreement Details

At a public meeting last night, Mayor Cherelle Parker shared specifics about the terms her administration and the 76ers agreed to for the construction of a new sports arena in Center City. Get the details here. [City & State PA]

📱 Philly State Senator Denies Writing Offensive Tweets

Sen. Jimmy Dillon of Northeast Philly has come under fire for five now-deleted tweets from the account for Hoops 24-7, a Bensalem basketball academy he operates. Dillon says he didn’t write and wasn’t aware of the posts, which were around a decade old and included the N-word and racist and homophobic comments. [NBC10]

🛣️ Vine Street Changes

PennDOT is planning a $7-million “road diet” for Vine Street in Chinatown, meant to make the corridor more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly. It’s expected to be finished ahead of the 2026 semiquincentennial celebrations. [KYW]

🚧 Bob and Barbara’s Streetery Saga

The South Street bar — one of 26 Philly eateries that managed to meet the city’s requirements for a streetery license — has to tear down its semi-permanent outdoor dining structure to make way for a repaving project, and the owners aren’t happy. [Inquirer 🔒]
