🍪 Rittenhouse’s cookie moment
October 9, 2024 · — Asha Prihar
Welcome to Wednesday! Who else cannot wait for the season premiere of Abbott Elementary tonight?! I love a good sitcom, and this one never fails to bring me joy 🥲

What's CITY Talking About?
📉 Declining Homicides and Shootings
Philly police recorded 10 homicides last month — the fewest in a single month since April 2015. The trend lines are positive: The city has seen an average of 21 homicides per month so far this year, a huge drop from the 42-per-month average between 2020 and 2022. [Inquirer 🔒]
🏅 CHOP Recognized as Top 10 Pediatric Hospital
U.S. News & World Report once again included the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia on its annual “Honor Roll” for pediatric medical centers. [Business Journal 🔒]
🚧 I-76 Weekend Closures
Heads up: PennDOT is planning some repairs to bridges over the Schuylkill, so the stretch of I-76 East from the Grays Ferry Avenue/University Avenue exit to the 34th Street on-ramp will close at 9 p.m. on Friday. It’s expected to open back up by 7 a.m. on Sunday. [NBC10]

🍪 Rittenhouse Square’s Cookie Craze
NYC-based Levain Bakery — known for its hefty chocolate chip cookies with gooey insides — will open the doors of its first-ever Philly location this Friday, making it the third gourmet cookie chain to open in the neighborhood over the past year. I explain this tasty trend and what you’ll find at each of these shops. [City Cast Philly 🎧]

Where Is It?

Welcome back to “Where Is It?”, the weekly game where I show you some public art, and you tell me where in Philly you can find it. As always, we’ll start by reviewing last week’s mural, pictured above.
📍 You can find this mural in Palumbo Park on the side of Fleisher Art Memorial, near 8th & Catherine Streets in Bella Vista.
🍂 Part of a piece called “Autumn Revisited,” this Mural Arts project by David Guinn was completed in 2013. It’s a reimagining of another one of Guinn’s pieces — “Autumn,” a 10th & Bainbridge mural that was part of his larger “Four Seasons” series before it was covered up by a new building on the adjacent lot.
🏅 Congrats to the seven Hey Philly readers who recognized “Autumn Revisited”: Jena O., Treshia H., Bettie K., Jess D., Sara P., Heather S., and Tyler C.!
Now on to this week’s challenge, brought to you by our very own City Cast Philly podcast host Trenae Nuri. See if you recognize this mural …

Where in Philly is it supposedly always sunny? Send me your best guess using this form, or reply to this email.
