City Cast Philly

📺 FOX’s new, very Philly cartoon

October 17, 2024 · — Asha Prihar

Good morning! I’ve been thinking a lot about internet virality lately, particularly since Liberty Kitchen in Fishtown sold over 1,000 (!!!) kale Caesar chicken cutlet sandwiches over the weekend thanks to a TikTok trend. I just hope that people don’t end up fighting over them the way people fight over Stanley cups at Target!

What's CITY Talking About?

Whether you find Philly fans annoying or you are a Philly fan, I think there's something for everybody here.

❗ Watch Out for Whooping Cough

Pennsylvania has been a hotspot for the illness this year. According to new CDC data, our state has the most reported cases in the nation — and there have been almost 11 times as many in 2024 as there were in 2023. Vaccines are the best defense against whooping cough. [PhillyVoice]

Unnecessary Narcan Use?

Some people have accused police in Kensington of administering naloxone to people who aren’t overdosing, which can have the effect of sending drug users into withdrawal. [Inquirer 🔒]

📍 You can find this “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”-inspired art — created by Drew "The Mayor" Montemayor — at Sunnyside Avenue & Cresson Street in East Falls, right near the SEPTA Regional Rail station.

Now, onto this week’s challenge. Do you know where in Philly you can find the (partial) painting pictured below?

What an adorable scene 🥺 (Asha Prihar/City Cast Philly)

I’ll give you a hint … it’s somewhere you might find lots of people reading. Send me your best guess! The answer will be revealed on Wednesday. And remember: We’re working on the honor system here — please don’t look the answer up online.

What To Do

Thursday, Oct. 17

Friday, Oct. 18

Ronald McDonald House Charities is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week, and it turns out its very first location was on Spruce Street right in West Philly ❤️💛 Its origin story involves the Eagles, Shamrock Shakes, and Dr. Audrey Evans, a pediatric oncologist from CHOP who’s the subject of a new movie starring Natalie Dormer that's premiering this weekend in Philly.

Enjoy your Thursday!
