🛣️ Road Closures To Know About
This weekend the Philadelphia Marathon is taking over the city, so get ready for some road closures. The inner lanes of Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. today; from 22nd Street to Logan Circle, the lanes will reopen at 2:45 p.m. After rush hour, all inner lanes from the Art Museum to 20th Street will remain closed. 🥤 Impact of Philly’s Soda Tax
Philadelphia implemented a soda tax in 2017 to fund pre-kindergarten education and community centers. Curious about its health impact, University of Pennsylvania researcher Christina Roberto conducted a study to examine whether the tax led to reductions in body mass index (BMI) and obesity rates. Little evidence was found that BMIs and obesity decreased in the city three years after the tax was implemented. [🔒The Inquirer]
🎨 New Mural Debuts in West Philly
A vibrant new ground mural titled “Groove and Flow” has been unveiled at Cedar Park. Spanning 24 by 30 feet, this colorful artwork not only brightens the space but also serves as a tool to block traffic and shield pedestrians. 🔥 In Kensington, City Seeks to Extinguish Trash Fires Used for Warmth
The city is creating a task force to address trash fires started by people experiencing homelessness and help those who start the fires get a safe and warm spot to sleep. The city has repurposed a truck that will be used to patrol the neighborhood. [WHYY]
