😞 We Hope We Can Still Hear the Wanamaker Organ

Sadly, I feel like many of us saw this coming. After 19 years, the Macy’s in the historic 1910 Wanamaker Building will close its doors in March. Known for its Christmas light show, the eagle statue, and its massive organ, Macy’s will leave a void in Market East and the city at large. Fortunately, its interior – including the eagle and organ – is historically protected. [🔒 The Inquirer]

👮 Philly Teens in Juvenile Detention Locked in Seclusion for 10 Consecutive Days

The Office of the Youth Ombudsperson says minors in juvenile detention have been locked alone in their rooms for as many as 10 days at a time. This practice violates state laws, which prohibit isolating minors for more than eight hours in a two-day period without a court order. [🔒 The Inquirer]

📈 Why Will Philly’s Housing Market Be So Hot in 2025?

According to Zillow, Philly will be the fifth-most competitive urban housing market in 2025. A contributing factor to Philly’s higher ranking is that it’s a more affordable city. [Zillow, PhillyVoice]

🏘️ New Housing for People in Addiction Recovery

New housing is opening in Northeast Philly for individuals transitioning from short-term, inpatient addiction treatment programs. Residents can stay at this 336-bed facility for up to a year as they get back on their feet. [PhillyVoice]
