🚃 SEPTA Key’s pricey fix

January 16, 2025 · — Ava Wojnowski

Good morning, Philly! If you caught our episode earlier this week, you heard about Philly’s thriving podcast scene. We’re keeping the conversation going tonight at Solar Myth, where City Cast Philly host Trenae Nuri will moderate a panel, “The State of Philly Podcasting,” as part of our semi-regular (and free) Philly Podcast Mixer. Meet the team and grab some tomato pie!

Now we know Philly loves a good fighter story, especially if that fighter is one of our own. In today’s episode, Trenae talks with former pro boxer David Feldman, the extraordinary Philly native who is turning the sport of bare-knuckle fighting into a global empire (and hosting a big Knucklemania V championship in Philly later this month).

After a video of the male fan verbally assaulting a female Packers fan at last Sunday’s game against Green Bay went viral, the fan was fired from his job and banned from the Linc forever as the Eagles make amends with the victim. 🚆 SEPTA Key To Undergo Costly Changes … Again

SEPTA riders know that since the transit authority implemented the Key Card system in 2016, it’s been rife with problems. Now SEPTA might spend $211 million for a new company to fix it, while state funding for its budget remains uncertain. [🎧 City Cast Philly, 🔒 Inquirer]

⚖️ Could This Be Krasner’s Last Term?

After resigning from his post as Philadelphia Municipal Court judge last month, Patrick Dugan announced Tuesday he would challenge Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner in the upcoming election. At his campaign kickoff, Dugan showed off support from the powerful Building Trades unions and blamed Krasner’s approach to retail theft for businesses leaving the city. Krasner, who has been in office for two terms, has yet to officially announce his re-election bid. [WHYY]

📚 Kensington Teens Are Making Reading Fun-damental

In a school district with only two full-time certified librarians, students at Kensington Health Sciences Academy are taking matters into their own hands. The high schoolers built the DreamEscape Library in the hope of making reading accessible and cool to their peers. [🔒 Inquirer]
