🏈 We’re going to the Super Bowl!

January 27, 2025 · — Siani Colón

We did it, Philly! The Eagles are heading back to the Super Bowl for the third time in seven years! In an electric game, the Birds dominated with a 55-23 win over the Commanders and are once again the NFC Champions. 🦅 Saquon Barkley rushed for three touchdowns, while Jalen Hurts made NFL history breaking Steve Young’s record for the most post-season rushing TDs for a quarterback. D.C.: Leave the flying to the Eagles.

The team will be back for revenge (and a trophy) when they face the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9 (Barkley's birthday!) in New Orleans. Stay tuned for more coverage in the newsletter and on our podcast about Super Bowl events, how the city’s preparing, and the big game day itself. For now, all the love to Saquon, A.J., Cooper, Lane, Jordan, Zack, both Jalens, and the rest of this squad. Rest up!

🥤 No Taxation on Carbonation

City Council passed a resolution to reconsider the 1.5 cents-per-ounce charge on sugary drinks. The resolution cited Teamsters Local 830, saying that under former Mayor Jim Kenney's sugar-sweetened beverage tax, it saw a 43% decrease of sweetened beverage sales in Philly, but a 20% increase immediately outside city limits. Council will examine whether the tax led to job losses in the city. [Philly Voice]
