Victims in NE Philly plane crash identified
February 3, 2025 · — Siani Colón
Hey, neighbors. What started as a joyous week for our city with the Eagles earning a trip to the Super Bowl ended Friday night with a tragic plane explosion and crash near a major intersection in Northeast Philadelphia. Officials said that all six people aboard the plane, and someone in a car on the ground, died. Twenty-two people were injured, including three who were in critical condition as of Sunday night.
The plane had departed Northeast Philadelphia Airport and was headed to Springfield, Mo., with a final destination in Tijuana, Mexico. The Jet Rescue Air Ambulance was transporting an 11-year-old girl who had just completed months of treatment for a spinal condition at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. All six on board – the girl, her mother, a paramedic, a doctor, and two pilots – were Mexican nationals.
First responders were quick to the scene and the Philadelphia community stepped up, with one bystander literally giving a victim the shirt off his back and others distributing free masks to residents exposed to pollutants from the flaming crash. The incident is still being investigated, but below is what we know so far.
