Good morning, Philly! It’s a busy week in Harrisburg. Governor Josh Shapiro has pitched a $51.4 billion budget to the Pennsylvania legislature that includes legalizing recreational cannabis, funding public transit agencies with more than $290 million, and taxing the “skill game” machines that we keep seeing at truck stops and bars. He also urged lawmakers to raise the hourly minimum wage to $15.

❤️🩹 Boys Still Recovering After Philly Plane Crash
Two children are still hospitalized from severe on-the-ground injuries after Friday’s medical jet crash in Northeast Philadelphia. When 10-year-old Trey woke up after a piece of metal plane debris lodged in his head, he asked, “Did I save my sister?” Yes, it appears he did. (He also wanted to make sure he didn't miss the Super Bowl). Meanwhile 9-year-old Ramesses is undergoing treatment in Boston after 90% of his body was burned. 🚓 Philly Police Fatally Shoot Man on Highway
Around 1 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a man wandering on the I-95 South ramp near the Philadelphia International Airport. The 36-year-old man said he was stabbed. While waiting for medics to arrive, police claim the officer and the man got into a scuffle, and the officer fired his taser. When a second officer arrived at the scene, that officer fired multiple shots, killing him. Neither the name of the officers nor the victim have been released. [Philly Voice]
🏘️ City Council Tries To Tackle Housing Costs
Councilmembers Jamie Gauthier and Rue Landau introduced separate pieces of legislation to address housing in the city. Gauthier’s legislation aims to speed up the approval process on affordable housing developments. Landau wants to cap rental applications at $20 and reduce security deposit costs. Mamajuana Cafe Philly is keeping it busy all Valentine’s weekend long with a special menu and live DJ on Feb. 14, dinner and show on Feb. 15, and a “Galentines & Gents” brunch on Feb. 16.
