I paid $11 for a bacon-egg-and-cheese breakfast sandwich last week and I know it wasn’t that much the last time I went. Before you all yell at me for paying that much, did I have a choice? Many Philly restaurants are feeling the brunt of rising egg costs thanks to inflation and bird flu. One Philly restaurant is paying $235 per case of eggs, and customers are covering the cost. Philadelphia has one of the hottest food scenes in the country — just ask Bon Appétit, which included not one but two Philly restaurants (Meetinghouse and My Loup) in its top 20 new restaurants of the year.

Since our culinary landscape is constantly growing and changing, we’re here to help you stay on top of it all. Here’s a recap of some of the Philly restaurants, bars, cafés, and other food spots that have recently opened.

🫔 Tequilas Casa Mexicana | 1602 Locust Street (Center City)

Rising like a phoenix from the flames, Tequilas has reopened after a devastating fire in February 2023 shuttered its doors. Dinners can expect Mexican dishes such as tinga poblana (chicken stew that can be served vegan), enchiladas suizas (tortillas filled with crab meat and melted cheese), and langostinos a la diabla (served with rice and tequila sauce). And coming soon to the restaurant’s Latimer Street side is a new spin-off of Tequilas – La Jefa, an all-day café.

🍷 Supérette | 1538 E. Passyunk Ave. (East Passyunk)

While Philly may have been questionably dubbed the “Frenchest American City” by Michelin, we do in fact have a smattering of French restaurants. And now, Supérette is bringing a taste of Southern France to South Philly. The neighborhood market/restaurant/bar has a chic deli-style vibe with meats, cheeses, and specialty wines.

🐔 Lion Sports Bar | 1021 Arch St. (Chinatown)

Whether you’re watching baseball, basketball, or soccer, Lion Sports Bar has you covered. The bar opened with what may have been a unique promotion – a $100,000 prize if you had a perfect bracket for March Madness. Bar-goers can enjoy 50 cent wings every Thursday, and if you’re looking for a spot to celebrate your birthday, Lion offers a free birthday open bar.
