What's CITY Talking About?

🚓 Philly Officer Shot by Partner, Not by Man Police Had Accused

During an incident in which a Philadelphia police officer fatally shot a man outside Friends Hospital last week, police now say, the officer accidentally shot a fellow officer in the ballistic vest. This contradicts the earlier statement that Aaron Rainey, the 36-year-old who was killed, had shot the officer, prompting Officer Thomas Thompson to shoot in response. Rainey was being escorted by police to a voluntary psychiatric evaluation the day he was killed. [🔒 The Inquirer]

🚗 Parking War on Loading Zones

The Philadelphia Parking Authority is cracking down on parking in loading zones. The Smart Loading Zone initiative covers 22 spots in Center City, with cameras monitoring the length of time drivers are parked and whether they’re registered for CurbPass – a system to charge registered users 10 cents per minute if they’re parked for more than three minutes. If you’re not registered or if you park for over an hour, you can get a $51 ticket. [CBS Philly]

🏃 Half Marathon To Shut Down Philly Streets

If you’re not participating in this race, you may want to run in the other direction. Roads will be closed this Sunday for the Love Run Philadelphia Half Marathon and 7.6K. Expect closures from Old City to East Falls. Roads in Center City should reopen by 11 a.m. [City of Philadelphia]

🎨 A sweet tribute. Back in January, the world lost legendary director David Lynch, who filmed the 1977 film “Eraserhead” in Philly. A new mural from Mural Arts and artist Dennis McNett, located behind Love City Brewing, honors the filmmaker.
