🪪 If You’re in Line To Get Your Real ID, Good Luck
The May 7 deadline for Pennsylvanians to obtain a Real ID is quickly approaching, and residents are scrambling to update their identification cards. This has resulted in long lines at PennDOT, with folks needing to do normal business getting caught in the mix and others turned away for bringing the wrong documents. If you don’t have a Real ID, you’ll need a passport or other form of accepted identification to board domestic flights and access certain federal buildings. [CBS Philly]
📧 Lawmakers Can Now Hide Their Emails With Lobbyists
In a loss for transparency, Pennsylvania appellate courts ruled that communications between state lawmakers and lobbyists will remain hidden from the public. Advocates call this ruling a missed opportunity to unveil the inner workings of the legislature. In 2023, lobbyists spent $147.1 million on wooing lawmakers. [Spotlight PA]
🏥 City Contract Workers at Risk of Being out of a Job Thanks to DOGE
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health could lose hundreds of contract workers after three major COVID-related federal grants that were not expected to expire until years from now were revoked. This impacts initiatives including the enhancement of disease detection and vaccines for children. [WHYY]
🏫 These Philly Principals Are Being Honored for Their Impact
Seven Philadelphia school principals are being honored tomorrow for their leadership in their school communities. The Lindback Distinguished Principals Award includes a $20,000 prize to be used for the schools. One principal plans to use the money to create mobile language learning labs and add resources for students to learn American Sign Language. [KYW]
