⚖️ Settlement Reached in Dispute Over Penn’s Handling of MOVE Bombing Victim Remains

Lionell Dotson, brother of victims Katricia and Zanetta, asserted that the University of Pennsylvania held the remains of Katricia following the investigation of the 1985 bombing, despite the university’s denials. While remains were later handed over to members of MOVE (the group that was bombed by the Philadelphia Police Department in the infamous incident), Dotson argued that as next of kin, he should have been the one to receive them. 🗳️ PA’s Closed Primary Status Locks Out Growing Base of Third Party Voters

Despite Pennsylvania being one out of 10 states with closed primaries, the state is seeing growth in independent voters. Between the May primary in 2015 and April 22, 2025, registrations for independent and third parties grew 58% in Philadelphia. Independent voters can still vote on ballot questions during the primary, but not for a candidate. [Spotlight PA]

🤢 Billions of Gallons of Sewage Contaminated Philly’s Waterways

Although drinking water is treated before it reaches you, heavy rains can overload Philly’s combined sewer system, which risks contaminated water coming into residents’ homes. To prevent this, the city’s sewage outfalls divert untreated water into Philly’s creeks. But the 14 billion gallons of sewage go into creaks in the city’s most economically challenged neighborhoods, leaving a stench and unsafe waters for health and recreation. [CBS Philly]
