City Cast Philly
🚌 A new way to fight for SEPTA funding
April 28, 2025 · — Adrian González
Good morning! It’s City Cast editor (and avid tequila fan) Adrian González filling in for today.
Have you ever wondered what your neighbors like to drink? Our friends at The Philadelphia Inquirer have a new tool that lets you plug in your zip code and see the most popular wine and spirits in your neighborhood.

What's CITY Talking About?

🤑 The Business of Expensive Concert Tickets
Between rising costs and multiple fees, purchasing a ticket to see your favorite artist in concert has become increasingly expensive. So we called up Jeff Apruzzese — assistant professor in the music industry department at Drexel University (and former bassist of the indie band Passion Pit) — to talk about the cost of concert tickets and how it’s affecting consumers. 🚗 The Traffic Calming Efforts Changing South Philly
South Philly residents “feel like they’re in Paris or London” following the completion of a roundabout to calm traffic at the dangerous intersection of Moyamensing, Packer, and Penrose Avenues. Meanwhile, walking and biking have increased along Washington Avenue, but officials say it's too early to tell whether the calming project has reduced crashes. [WHYY]
📱 Philly Website Helps Commuters Fight for Their Rides
A local college student has launched a website that lets commuters see how their routes are affected by SEPTA budget cuts and gives them an easy way to share feedback with city and state representatives. More than 350 letters have been sent to lawmakers so far. [Technical.ly]
🌉 East Coast Greenway Makes Progress
The long-awaited Christian-to-Crescent Bridge connecting Center City’s trails to the Grays Ferry Crescent is nearly done and will open sometime in June. A second bridge linking Bartram’s Mile is expected to open by the end of the year. [Philly Mag]

I didn’t have the mental stamina to watch the NFL draft, but I do want to shout out Eagles first-round pick Jihaad Campbell — a native of South Jersey and a pretty damn good linebacker. 🦅
Philly’s own Abdul Carter went third overall — too bad it was for the Giants.
