👀 Why DA Larry Krasner wants four more years
April 30, 2025
Hiya! We’ve got a special newsletter for you today — keep reading for a preview of our one-on-one interview with Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who’s up for reelection in the Democratic primary on May 20. He talks to us about why Philly’s murder rate is the lowest in 50 years, what the kerfuffle over the lack of candidate debates is all about, how he views the Eagles’ visit to the White House, and why his opponent, former Judge Pat Dugan, reminds him of President Trump. Dugan — who’ll be on our show next Wednesday – rejects any comparison to Trump, by the way 👀

What's CITY Talking About?
🚔 Police Fatally Shoot Carjacking Suspect
A man suspected of carjacking was involved in a high-speed chase with police Monday night along Roosevelt Boulevard that ended with him being shot 10 times by seven police officers. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Video shows the man driving across a grass median and then against several lanes of oncoming traffic. Police said the suspect emerged from the car armed and that he had fired one gunshot while being pursued. [6ABC]
🇬🇧 British Royal Visits Philly, Dedicates Historic Bell
Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, begins a two-day visit to Philadelphia today to promote youth education and celebrate U.S.-U.K. ties. His trip includes dedicating the newly refurbished Benjamin Rush Garden, which features the Bicentennial Bell that was gifted to us by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, back in 1976. [WHYY]
🩺 City Council Voting on Kensington Mobile Health Bill
After a long delay, City Council on Thursday is set to vote on a revised bill limiting mobile health services in Kensington. Councilmember Quetcy Lozada gutted the original bill last week, which now permits medical services but restricts non-medical providers. Critics say the revised bill prioritizes control over care, but proponents say the mobile services attract problematic behavior from people who leave trash, like discarded drug paraphernalia, behind.
