May 2, 2025 · — Siani Colón

Good morning, Philly! Did you know we have our own Walk of Fame? You don’t have to fly out to Hollywood to walk among the stars. The city recently honored several local artists, including rapper Schoolly D, along Broad Street.

What's CITY Talking About?

🦅 Eagles Take Over DC, CCP Goes to Court, and a Philly Judge’s Cheesesteak Controversy

On today’s Friday News Roundup, City Cast Philly host Trenae Nuri and executive producer Matt Katz talk about the Eagles visiting the White House (and the players who skipped it), the Community College of Philadelphia asking City Council for more money (while its ousted president files a lawsuit), and a Philly judge in hot water because of his wife’s cheesesteak business (is the real crime the $35 steaks?!). ⚖️ Could Philly Be Targeted for Being a Sanctuary City?

President Donald Trump signed an executive order this week demanding a list of cities and states blocking federal immigration enforcement operations. Philly’s likely to be listed. While local policies regarding ICE cooperation with police, schools, and churches have changed over the years, Philly’s sanctuary city status doesn’t protect it from ICE carrying out deportations. 🦝 Raccoons Are Not Invited to the BBQ

The Clean Philadelphia NOW coalition launched the first in a series of videos sharing the experiences of Philly residents dealing with illegal dumping and its impact on their quality of life. “I want to sit on my porch and to have friends over and stuff,” said Nicetown block captain Joyce Brooks, who has been living in the neighborhood for 57 years. “I can’t do that because the raccoons might be running through there.” Who else can relate? 🏛️ Councilmember Shuts Down Detractors Over Kensington Bill and Judge Shuts Down Wellness Courts

A final vote on a bill restricting how some medical providers and volunteers distribute services in Kensington is set for next week following explosive public testimony at City Council yesterday. Councilmember Quetcy Lozada, who introduced the bill, slammed her desk at one point, telling opponents: “How dare you organize and tell people lies…without reading the damn bill.” Meanwhile, a municipal court judge has placed the Kensington Wellness Court on hold, citing lack of communication and coordination from the Parker Administration.
