Do you have plans tonight, Philly? If not, here’s an invite for you: Join City Cast Philly for a live recording of our podcast! Host Trenae Nuri will moderate a panel of journalists from NBC10, The Inky, WHYY, and KYW Newsradio to discuss the District Attorney election results and what it means for criminal justice in Philly. We’ll be at the Pen & Pencil Club. And guess what? It’s free!

What's CITY Talking About?

⚖️ Inside the Minds of Jurors in Ex-Cop’s Murder Trial

Former Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial was convicted of voluntary manslaughter last Thursday for the 2023 killing of Eddie Irizarry. The jury foreman now says Dial’s contradictory testimony along with bodycam footage of the shooting were driving factors in the conviction. The jury was also troubled by the Dial defense team’s characterization of North and West Philadelphia as “war zones." [🎧 City Cast Philly, 🔒 The Inquirer]

🚰 Water Bills Could Go Up, Again

Philly residents have been struggling to keep up with their water bills for some time, and now customers should be prepared for bills to go up again. The Philadelphia Rate Board's appointed lawyers approved the Water Department’s request for a combined 18% rate increase. While the board itself still needs to approve the deal, it’s unlikely it will reject the negotiation made by its own advocate. [🎧 City Cast Philly, Philadelphia Hall Monitor]
