⚖️ Center City residents sue over bike lane parking
June 4, 2025 · — Siani Colón
Good morning, Philly! The weather’s perfect for a stroll isn’t it? Go for a night out on Passyunk Passeggiata, an Italian-style promenade. Throughout the summer, participating restaurants will offer happy hour deals, and shops will host a sidewalk market every Thursday at 5 p.m. 🍷

What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ What Really Happened with Philly's DA Race
On this special live taping of City Cast Philly at the Pen & Pencil Club host Trenae Nuri is joined by KYW Newsradio’s Pat Loeb, WHYY’s Cherri Gregg, The Inquirer’s Ellie Rushing, and NBC 10’s Lauren Mayk to discuss the outcome of the District Attorney race, whether Larry Krasner could have an opponent in November, and where Philly stands in the national conversation about crime. 🚘 Neighborhood Group Hits City With Lawsuit Over Parking
After Mayor Cherelle Parker signed a law prohibiting vehicles from stopping in a bike lane, it ignited further debate between cyclists who utilize the lanes for biking and residents who utilize the lanes to drop off people and things in front of their homes. Now, Friends of Pine & Spruce, a nonprofit representing community members in Rittenhouse and Society Hill, is suing to challenge the creation of new corner loading zones that were actually intended to accommodate residents who can no longer park in the bike lanes, saying the zones would eliminate 30% of parking spots. 💻 Anti-DEI Funding Cuts Could Worsen Philly’s Digital Divide
The Trump administration declared the Digital Equity Act unconstitutional, cutting funding for programs aimed to bridge technology access. Philadelphia won (but had not yet received) an $11.9 million grant that was to support an internet subsidy program, laptop kiosks, esports centers, and other accessibility initiatives. [Technical.ly]
🏫 At a North Philly School Where Students Experience Homelessness, Amazing Strides in Math and Reading Scores
The School District of Philadelphia honored Robert Morris Elementary for having the most improved reading and math scores. The school, where a fifth of the student population is experiencing homelessness, credits the improvement in part to using real-life applications in lessons – one teacher dressed up as a chef and baked cookies to teach a math lesson. Where Is It?

Shrek is out of his swamp and has taken up residence Far Far Away in Philadelphia. On Sunday, I gave up on waiting for the bus and opted to walk to meet up with friends. Along my peaceful stroll, I came across this homage to a certain animated ogre, filled with art and other offerings.
For this week’s “Where Is It?”, do you know where this Shrek Shrine is located?
