June 17, 2025 · — Adrian González
Good morning, friends! It’s City Cast editor Adrian González here to spend this beautiful Tuesday with you.
I want to let you know that the Philly Obit Project has two more training sessions for their Writing Heals program, which offers $200 to families of gun violence victims to share positive stories about their relatives. The next one is tomorrow, June 18.

What's CITY Talking About?
🏛️ Dozens of Immigrants Summoned by ICE on Father’s Day
Several Philadelphia immigrants received short-notice messages asking them to report to an immigration office on Sunday without explanation — many were unable to have a lawyer present on a holiday. The scene was tense as some were allowed to leave and others were detained. [🔒 The Inquirer]

⭐️ From Delivering Cakes to Delivering Hits
It’s been less than a month since the Phillies called up infielder Otto Kemp to fill in for the injured Bryce Harper, and he’s already on a tear. As of this writing, he’s batting .345 and given the team a needed boost. So, will the Phillies send Kemp back to the minors when Harper returns? [Philly Voice]
- Whatever the outcome, Kemp has options. He’s a finance major and a former wedding cake delivery driver. [Crossing Broad]
🧑⚖️ Governor Commutes Life Sentence for Marie Scott
The 71-year-old has been in prison since 1973 for a felony murder conviction after her then-boyfriend killed a gas station attendant during a robbery that she was involved in. Scott will serve six more months before she’s eligible for parole. Some members of the victim’s family plan to voice their opposition to her release at Scott’s parole hearing. [🔒 The Inquirer]
