⚖️ Philly neighbors reeling after ICE arrests

Hiya, Philly! We know a lot of you are die-hard transit fans (or at least like riding the train when it’s on time). But do you love SEPTA as much as this family?
We’re still waiting on SEPTA funding in the state budget, but things seem to be moving in a hopeful direction. Fingers crossed that some routes and stations don’t become things of the past, like the token.

👮 Ex-Cop Released on Parole After Sentencing for Deadly Shooting
Former Philadelphia Police officer Mark Dial was convicted of manslaughter back in May for the 2023 killing of Eddie Irizarry. He was sentenced this week to 9 1/2 months to 2 years in prison, but was granted immediate parole for already serving 10 months. [🎧 City Cast Philly, 6ABC]
⚖️ ICE Arrests Persist
Residents are grappling with recent arrests made by Immigration Customs and Enforcement. Five undocumented men from Guatemala were picked up earlier this month at their South Philly home, and a violent arrest was made Thursday outside the Juanita Kidd Stout Center for Criminal Justice. 🚙 Public Outcry After Drivers Strike Multiple People on Busy Intersection
The Department of Streets is temporarily changing the direction of the 600 block of South LeCount Street after neighbors and activists raised alarm over several people struck by drivers coming off the South Street Bridge. A permanent change will require legislation. [CBS Philly]
🛣️ Your Next Commute Could Be Much Smoother
Several other changes are coming to Philly-area roads. Three key PennDOT projects are nearing completion: Improvements to Lincoln Highway and Rockhill Drive, enhancements to the Sumneytown Pike Connector, and resurfacing to I-76 and its ramps. [Billy Penn]
