August 8, 2025 · — Siani Colón
Happy Fri-yay! It’s the weekend, which means you should totally treat yourself. The PHS Pop-Up Garden on South Street is giving away free, fresh floral bouquets to the first 15 guests starting at 3 p.m. So make sure to stop and smell the roses 💐

What's CITY Talking About?

🚌 SEPTA Almost at Point of No Return
The state House of Representatives returns to vote on Sunday on a bill that would increase the sales tax in order to fund SEPTA. But we’re still waiting on the Republican-controlled Senate to return to work and approve a budget that is nearly six weeks late. If there’s no budget that includes SEPTA funds by Thursday, drastic cuts will disrupt the lives of thousands of commuters. [X, 🎧 City Cast Philly]

⚖️ Suspect Arrested in Connection to Grays Ferry Mass Shooting
After three people were killed and nine injured in a mass shooting over Independence Day weekend, a suspect has finally been apprehended. And Philadelphia police say they’re close to charging more people. Over 140 bullets recovered from the scene were traced back to 13 different guns. [🎧 City Cast Philly, CBS Philly]
🩺 Could You Be Losing Your Health Insurance?
Due to pending federal Medicaid cuts, 300,000 Pennsylvanians could soon be without care. But because the Department of Human Services partners with private insurance companies, many participants get commercial insurance cards even if their care is supported by public dollars. And so they may not know they’re at risk of losing their coverage. [🔒The Inquirer]
