🚉 SEPTA begins to pull trains out of service
October 8, 2025 · — Siani Colón
I hope this morning feels better than yesterday! The back-to-back losses from the Phillies have made the past few days brutal. Now tonight’s game is a do-or-die scenario for our championship dreams. If you’re up for it, the game takes place in Los Angeles at 9:08 p.m.
At least it’s a good week to be a Union fan.

What's CITY Talking About?
🚆 Cancellations Plague Regional Rail As Faulty Cars Get Pulled
Days after the National Transportation Safety Board recommended SEPTA immediately stop using its Silverliner IV cars, SEPTA is heeding the warning. Trains have been pulled out of service for inspections, resulting in delays, cancellations, and overcrowding. [🎧 City Cast Philly, KYW]
🚑 Are the City’s Overdose Prevention Initiatives Working?
The city’s experiencing a declining overdose rate, in part thanks to expanded use of the medication Sublocade and access to Narcan. But two additions to the efforts are a wellness court in Kensington and a new residential recovery facility in Northeast Philly. How successful are these initiatives and where’s all that funding coming from? [🎧 City Cast Philly]

🚌 Tax Dollars Used to Bus Unhoused People Across the Country
The Office of Homeless Services describes bussing people out of Philly as the best initiative it has to reduce homelessness. While officials say they check that participants have a place to go before leaving, there is no follow-up after participants board the bus and no guarantee they won’t become unhoused again and return to Philly. 💰 Budget Delay Leaves Rape Survivors Without Services
The Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence (formerly WOAR) is laying off staff and cutting back free services, including its 24/7 crisis hotline and therapy. The organization hopes to resume services once state legislators finally approve a budget, which was due June 30. [🔒The Inquirer]

Where Is It?

We’re back with another “Where Is It?” challenge, our game where you guess the location of street art and landmarks around the city. Be sure to check last week’s newsletter for the answer to our last challenge!
Although you can’t access the Liberty Bell during the government shutdown, you can still see this bicentennial bell gifted by Queen Elizabeth II to Philadelphia in 1976. Do you know where it’s currently located?
